With the holidays right around the corner, it’s the perfect time to start thinking about the gardener (or yourself) in your life. Gardeners by nature are pretty scrappy but we also love gifts that make our time in the garden easier. As a working mom, my time is so limited in the garden. So anything that helps me save time so I can enjoy more, is worth it. Here are some items that I have purchased over the years to make my life easier and some things that I have on my wish list this year.
Gardeners are like kids on Christmas morning when they start to see tulips, daffodils, and crocus pop up at the beginning of Spring. Planting bulbs can be tedious since each bulb must be planted in its own individual hole. A bulb auger makes bulb planting much faster and more precious than using a shovel.
mentioned, I have a day job. This means I usually only have time to get in my garden in the late afternoon. Watering plants by hand is so time-consuming for me even with the hose. So I have set up a timer to help me water while I’m at work so I have more time to enjoy my garden or do other fun things, like hunting for pests.

This goes along the same lines as the timer. Having a drip irrigation system allows the water to water each plant at the base where the plant can absorb the most water. My timer and my drip irrigation work together to provide my plants with moisture while I’m still at the office. Good Housekeeping has a great article to explain the basics of drip irrigation.
These are on my Christmas list this year. My house is an old 1950s ranch style house with little bitty windows. I don’t get enough light to start my seeds inside without them getting very leggy. Every Spring I feel behind because I have to wait until I can direct sow to get everything started. A set of grow lights will be my way of trying to stay ahead of the growing seasons this year. You can also go ahead and plant baby greens seeds to harvest during those cold winter months by setting up your grow lights indoors. Botanical Interests has a wonderful baby greens seed collection that would pair nicely with the grow lights.
Flower Collection Gift Set
Botanical Interest is one of my favorite seed companies. The amount of information that they provide on every seed packet is invaluable especially if you are a new gardener. They are offering a wonderful collection of beautiful flower seeds in the Florist Cutting Flowers Collection. This will make a wonderful gift for your gardener friends!
I wish I would have gotten this when I first started gardening. I think back to the excitement of seeing my first flowers bloom. This is a great gift idea for a new gardener. You take your flower and gently press them. You can then label and store them or make an arrangement on paper to hang on your wall. Having the memories of your very first plants is the sweetest because you know all the work that went into those tiny little blooms. You can purchase one here.
Nothing can cheer up home like adorable window boxes. They require less maintenance than a regular garden bed and change with the seasons. You can find lots of pre-made window boxes or build custom boxes for your home. Just be sure to measure your window before buying them. Here is an inexpensive one on Amazon.
I hope this helps you pick the perfect gift for your garden lover!
